I seemed to have developed a slight oil seep from the bottom right of my motor, right around the forward area of the shifter.  Guessing that it could be a seal, I broke out the original toolkit phillips head (JIS) only to find that all the heads want to round off and not turn.  Any way to get this out and not totally ruin them??

Also the oil seems to only happen when I turn the bike off, it is not happening consistently after being parked.

You need to use an impact driver for the screws before you ruin them. One of the must have tools.

I'm a fan of using a small blade to make a phillips into a flat slot when they get too far gone.

If it's a lot of oil seeping out, I suspect oil pump o rings.

You might be able to tap a philips impact driver bit into what's left of the screw heads, and then slip the impact driver body onto the bit. Then...whack away! (That sounds bad)

If that doesn't work, then I usually try the flat head next by cutting a slot in what remains of the screw head. Failing that, I drill the head off with a drill bit and replace with new hardware. Ace Hardware carries the screws and literally labels them "cheese head" screws.

I bought a snap on socket with a phillips tip that fits my 3/8" craftsman battery impact drill, it's removed almost every screw I ever tried it on. My theory is if you don't have jis, pick the phillips that fits best then go one size bigger. Whack it with a hammer if you need to or just buy the one pictured above.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

JIS is the way to go. McMaster - Carr also has a good set of three of these drivers. You can't work on a Japanese bike without all three sizes.

Before I learned about JIS,  I had to drill a few heads off and replace the screws.  Once the head is gone, you will likely be able to remove the shafts with just bare fingers.
