Torque Spec Request for Honda CB500 (Intake Manifold)
« on: July 09, 2016, 09:00:08 PM »
Hey guys -

I've googled this and I've looked all over the manual. My bike is in pieces and I can't find the torque specs or bolt pattern for the intake manifold on a CB500. Help?

As far as I'm aware, there isn't any particular bolt pattern or torque specs for the 2 intake manifolds - just tighten the nuts firmly by hand. More importantly make sure the 4 o-rings in the manifolds are still supple, as they can tend to flatten & harden over time, which may lead to air leaks.

they're 6mm nuts. if nothing specific is described then the generic spec for "standard parts" on page 1 of the manual applies.

ive posted this before and many others aswell, never actually torque any 6mm bolts down,it just doesent work, youll snap the bolt or strip the static thread every time!just feel them down then nip them up later once or twice with a strangled wrench,im surprised people are still torquing 6mm threads.
Why would you use a torque wrench for 6 mm bolts? No serious mechanic would ever do that. Use a torque wrench only where it is really needed and for the rest, maintain your skill to feel what force is needed. Oh and stop just before it snaps. ;D

well not everyone is born with that feel. for those, it helps to use a torque wrench even on 6mm nuts so that they know how much is enough. usually people who don't know any better, tend to overtighten them.

If you want a torque wrench to measure below 10 ft/lbs accurately, you want an Inch Pound scale. A firm handshake is about 7# for the average man. Less if they have a Man Bun, beard and wear plaid shirts.
