Just scoot your ass back and let 'er rip!
My barely tuned 750 can pick it up!

But really I'm just happy enough to be able to quickly get out of peoples blind spots.

My old CB500 was not a wheelie machine. I don't think it was even capable of doing one.

My CB350 was much more likely to tote the front wheel.

My old CX500 Deluxe could do them at will.

I imagine a professional  racer or stunt person could do it on a CB500/550.

My old '65 Honda 150 dream would do 10 to 20 foot wheelies for the first few tries after a new clutch. But then no amount of effort would pull the wheel off the ground. The power to weight ratio really sucked. Maybe with a heavier rider. I was only about 130 lbs. at the time.

Of the bikes I had to choose from, I taught the wife to ride on the Mach III. Now she calls it the horror machine.

No stock purple 500's - only the Mach IV 750's came in purple - 1973 and in their last year 1975.

I bet the Kaw 500 made learning rough. Imagine having to learn a clutch on something with "no" horsepower until 4,000 rpm - then at 5,500 she jumps the front off the ground and screams to 8,500 where it pulls like on nitrous.

Could this be the purple bike model you refer to?

My reasoning was that if she kept it under 5 grand and didn't piss it off(and I told her this) it would be pretty docile, but after a few laps around the house while I was emptying a grain truck she came up in a huff and told me that she'd dumped the Kawi. After a while it came out that while I wasn't looking she'd decided to try a few roosters and it promptly spit her off...

When I was a kid, I rode a SL 100 Honda. I rode it on the street and the dirt.

One day I went across town to visit my dad and my step brother. My dad had bought a ragged old Bultaco and a fairly new Yamaha MX100. I climbed my butt on that MX100 and proceded to twist the throttle. Yep, that little motocrosser spit me off too !

So guess what my answer was one day a few years later when a friend rode up on his Mach III and asked if I wanted to try it ?

I have hated two strokes ever since.

The Mach 111 was a wheelie machine, unfortunately everywhere that you went you had to prove it, when you were leaving you had to show them a wheelie. Luckily I never managed to climb a fence, but the assembled crowd never saw the look of terror on my face !
It would also wheelie through the gears right up to snicking it into top gear, the price was exciting cornering and 20-25 mpg.

Cheers

I saw a video clip somewhere of a GL1800 doing a wheelie. If a 1400lb bike can do one any bike can

i had a '71 cl350T i pulled out of someone's ditch where i had been laying for 20 years. tuned it up, cleaned the carbs, replaced the battery, and a couple of hours later it was doing wheelies around the neighborhood. those things are bulletproof...

anyway, i was a couple of blocks from home, when i lifted the front wheel up for 20 feet or so...then i came off of the back of it like when you over-wheelie on a bicycle. i was able to run out of it without totally eating #$%*, but i had to watch as the bike went riding through the intersection on its back wheel, by itself. some kid on a big wheels sat there with bulged eyes as he watched a riderless bike go cruising past him on one wheel. after 20-30 feet or so, it crashed backwards, breaking the taillight, and then landed on its side, smashing the rear brake lever into the right engine cover spilling oil all over the road. i had to hit the kill switch to stop it running. i hung my head in shame and pushed it home.  :-\

luckily i had a parts bike in the driveway, and was back on the road within an hour.  ;D

Opps! lol

Bet that kid was terrorized for a few days after that lol.

Will say this..i havent attempted to wheelie the VF but i know it is capable of it and then some...there have been a couple times i have leaned over the front end just to keep it down yet the bike still wanted to pull the front end up! Keep in mind im over 300 lbs here lol

I have an illness as my wife puts it. That garage is now over-full and I've got them in my home's garage and in a separate storage facility. They keep finding me somehow....

The wife says "if just one more comes home"

I might miss her

 ;D

Just showed my wife the pix to show her how I want to use the dining area...she's "semi-tempted".  That's how sick SHE is!   ;D

I've
done extended wheelies on a Honda 50 MiniTrail.

That was one of my favorite bikes - I've jumped it, rode wheelies, and otherwise tried to destroy it. I couldn't believe how well that thing ran. They're still worth a good deal nowadays.

you know for 32 years its been a hobby of mine is to bring the front wheel up and dance on the back tire if  the bike is running on all 4 and the clutch is up to par   there has never been a 750 sohc that I havnt been able to do that  I recall years ago out on a ride with a few of us one buddy had a CJ 7 jeep got playing in the mud and me and another buddy got playig in this little hollow doing wheelies I again would play with the balancing point of my at the time 74 750 K and buddy with his 73 K well he would get front tire about a foot off the ground well week or so later talk was going around  how come I could do such better wheelies than Steve well Steves reply was we were geared differant (I knew we wernt) so one eary evening  my good buddy Steve rolled into town on his 750 I said let me borrow your bike for one wheelie he said  ok so I went off by myself to practice    well first time hmmm came up bout a foot I said you bi^&^% and shook the throtle a bit harder and boom there it was so back in town  got to where I  I would go for  it on the back tire  right in front of a certain parking lot witch was right on main street well it was perfect  the skeptics in the audience and oh yeah Steve was watching when I went by dancing his bike on the back tire  for around 150 yards I was nick named the wheelie king of Livermore Falls  have fun seven fifty four ever Craig in Maine
