CB750 & Comstar Wheels
« on: August 02, 2016, 11:25:08 am »
Hey all,

I'm looking at replacing by spoked wheels with some Comstars. I have a 75 cb750k, but I'm curious if these Comstar wheels will fit my axle. It advertises for CB750C but, but for 1980.

Also...will my current disc brake fit these wheels? Sorry for any newbie questions...I'm still a newbie. :)

Front wheel is 2.15 - 19
Rear is 2.5 - 16

Current wheels are...
Front:  3.25  - 19
Rear: 4.00 - 18

Thanks in advance for any help. Attached is a photo of my current front wheel.

Thanks for asking.
I'll be trolling the answers heavily - I have a '78 CB750K and newer wheels are on my horizon too.

I believe the front will fit - not sure about the brake rotor.

However, the rear will not. The 77 and later bikes had a 10mm offset sprocket carrier so the sprocket will not line up with your front sprocket.

Will it mount up? yes.

Will it be a huge headache trying to get a straight chain line? yes.

OK great, thank you! I can't find any Comstars that were made prior to 79. Since my bike is a 75, should I hang out and wait for Lesters to pop up do you think?

Spoked alloy rims off a CB750a (w the 6-bolt front) will fit, too, and are fairly easy to find.

I have spoked rims now...looking for mags. Lester, Morris, or Comstar. Any suggestions are welcome of course :)

I think flybox means the earlier style of comstar that came on the 750 hondamatic

As for the rear, I have a '76F so I took a rear comstar from a '77 and used the sprocket carrier from a '76 K. This lined everything up correctly, just a bit of a pain to source the parts.

Oh! I see now. Thanks for clearing that up. And great, I'll look into that. :)

By your original post i couldnt tell if you were wanting mag wheels, so I gave another cheap solution.
Nope, I meant the spoked wheels off of a Hondamatic.  ;)  Its a worthy upgrade over the stock DID rims.

The easiest way to run comstars on your bike...front you need the front wheel, brakes, forks and triples from a 77/78 cb750f2/f3.  The whole frontend bolts into your frame.  Rear you need swingarm, wheel, and brakes from same bike and will have to figure out/fab provisions for rear master cylinder and use the sprocket carrier from your '75.
