Cb350f ignition timing
« on: October 03, 2016, 09:09:22 AM »
Hello all,

I'm doing an ignition test and I realize I'm alittle on the retard side for both 1.4 and 2.3 the f mark isn't lining up in neutral. However the advance marks are wayyy behind the matching mark when I accelerate. Like very far.. I have a feeling even when I line the the f mark up in neutral it's still going to be off.

All of my screws are stripped so I need to dremel a slit to use a flat head

I know one of my points is a dytachi or what ever that other company is called. I know the geometry on these is different . I recently read that it's better to just line the matching mark in between the two lines when accelerating and not worry what it looks like at neutral.

I know this might also sound silly but my points open and close on no marks. Are they supposed to be closed or open on T or F ?

I'm going to work on the bike Monday so I will take a picture of the plates and points

Do yourself a HUGE favor and take a hammer and smash those Daichi points so you HAVE to go out and buy OEMs. You'll chase that problem around forever. Believe me.

Would someone mind taking a picture of their points?

I think I may have an oem one but don't know what the oem looks like! Haha

It'll say TEC or ND on it.
Daiichi has that 3-leaf logo, as seen on the box

Update!

2.3 lines up at the F Mark and when accelerates lines up with the | | second mark

1.4 doesn't line up with F at all and goes way past the two marks I put the OEM 1.4 points in what should I do next

Update again 1.4 was just too big. Now both line up at F however both also lined up on the second  Mark | | when accelerating is this OK. They do not go past the second

You gotta do 1&4 first.  Always.
Release some tension on the 3 mount screws.
Rotate the whole points plate to get it to fire on the F.   Lock it in place.
Now time 2&3, and adjust the secondary plate to get it to fire on F.  Lock it in place.
Recheck 1/4, then 2/3

Should be fine.  At what RPM does it jump to full advance?

It should reach full advance around 2500-3000rpm
You need to service your advance unit.
Remove the big nut.  Pull off your timing plate, remove the advance unit to clean and lube it.
If its rotation and movement is anything but perfectly smooth, it needs to be disassembled.
