Fun facts about this years Barber Vintage Festival

For those of you that have never been...

It's nearly impossible to describe the scope and scale of this event. There are more bikes parked on the side of the road (often three deep) than you've likely seen at any bike show. The track itself is beautiful, with hidden art work everywhere. The museum alone is worth a trip, and budget at least 4 to 6 hours to truly take it in (and I haven't even seen the new expansion yet (and additional 85,000 square feet!).
My cousin runs the event team there. He told me that attendance was up 10% again this year. The paddock was completely full, including the top row, which has never happened before.

Which brings me to the racing....
I saw this posted by a racer yesterday and thought it was amazing.
EVERY single AHRMA class was represented, some with more than 55 entrants, and over 500 bikes raced that weekend.
Barber is a 2.38 mile road course. That means those 1.2xx - 1.3xx minute lap times? Hauling. Ass.
 The part below is cut/pasted:

With the season over, I wanted to look at some numbers from our biggest race day. Saturday's races at Barber 2016. The following data was taken from my laps.com and is completely unofficial. I counted those that started the races and were scored, even those that crashed.
All of AHRMA's 43 classes were represented.
Saturday 567 entries lined up.
329 (58%) were vintage classes
238 (42%) were modern classes.
Over the weekend I hope to work on average top 5 lap times for each class. The goal would be to group classes in a race for the safest and best racing. I understand there is a lot more to it then just lap times. I feel Cindy has done an excellent job with this issue. I hope this data can be another tool at her disposal.
Ok, that was tedious, but it's done. I didn't use the top 5 from each class because some classes didn't have five entries. Averaged the top 3 best times from each class in Saturdays races. Not the answer to anything, just a snapshot of a beautiful day in Alabama. Hope all my friends busted up from Barber are healing quickly.

And remember, those lap times are an average of the top three laps from each class. That means that the AVERAGE speed for the fastest laps was about 97 MPH. Average....not top speed. On a track with 15 turns. The slowest class winner still ran an average of 68.5 MPH.

They said Sunday on the loud speaker in the paddock that they hadon't 1,022 entrants throughout the weekend. Granted, many run 2-3 classes. That's still amazing.

This was my 6th year, my dad's 9th, brought some friends along for their first. It gets better every year.
