De-Racking 627B Carbs - No Clue, No You Tube Help!!
« on: January 07, 2017, 09:54:43 AM »
Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to de-rack 627B carbs so that the small rubber vent tubes and the fuel inlet o-rings can be replaced.   I have followed the discussion on other recent 550 carb efforts but those carbs are mounted quite differently than a 627B. De-racking is the only way I see to make these vent tube and o-ring repairs.

Is there a You Tube video or some pictorial around here that I've missed?

Many thanks,

Rick

I'm assuming you have the rack pulled from the motor? If so then there's some large screws that hold the carbs to the stay plate (6-8 of them I believe and on the air box side of the plate). Once those are removed you'll be able to do what you need to.

Those eight screws are there and  and can be removed. But the choke linkage and the slide linkage both impede my progress.

I have a spare set. When I get home in a bit I'll see if I can be of more hep and get some pics. It's not difficult at all. If I can do it you'll be fine.

After pulling those 8 screws out you will need to undo these brass fasteners. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll have enough wiggle room to pop each carb off the ball/socket portion on the stay plate unless you also remove the washer that connects and keeps carbs 1/2 and 3/4 in sync. Once that's off you will be able to pop each carb off and then have each body separate. You'll have to do a bench sync and then a vacuum after you're all done. It's been a bit since so I had each body separate so I'm sorry.

Hello,

The links and the PDF document will be very helpful.  Really appreciate it.  If I can master the disassembly and re-assembly of these, it might just motivate me enough to become a You Tube video producer.

Hello,

Yessirree.  I got them apart.  Now to collect the new gaskets and o-rings and get on with the cleaning / reassembly.  Really appreciate the help.
