A good friend of mine is giving me his first bike. It's a 70 or 71 TS250 Suzuki. I don't have it yet, waiting for weather to warm up. Been sitting since 1974, in a heated workshop. Miles are 2,980. Everything is there, paint a little faded, mufflers are great, seat is solid. It has the shoe front brake, but an additional front fork with gaiters, and disk brake comes too. First time with a two stroke. Going to do a restore. I've done restores on many Honda's, all 4 strokes. Going to pull engine to repaint frame etc.. With the engine, can the top of cylinder be removed easily to check on pistons and walls etc. Plan to download service manual. A lot of parts on eBay too.

Most any two stroke cylinder head should be easily removed, usually in the frame. With that low mileage cylinder and piston should be good, one possible problem could be dried out crank seals.  Good luck and post photos when you get the bike.  Clean title coming with it?...Larry

Is it a TS250 or a T250. See you are using the plural for mufflers and talking about the front drum etc. TS is the single cylinder enduro and T is the nifty 250 twin road bike that were a blast and fast. Little later than the original Hustler.  I've got a green 1971 T250 I have to get to someday.

Your right, it is just a "T". Not that familiar with them yet. When the bike is in my garage, I'll post picks. Getting excited about doing a two stroke. I'll be asking a lot of questions. Would you guys suggest getting on a T250 forum?

Definitely get on a forum just to read and learn up on what to expect with that particular model and a two stroke or cruise the internet gleaning info. May be a free shop manual out there somewhere and a Clymers should be in the tool box also.

I have one, it's a '72.   It's currently in storage but I plan to get it back on the road maybe later this year [have a few other projects first].

The main issue with two strokes is the crank seals dry out over time, then they run very lean and can suffer piston seizure [dont ask how I know, just trust me!]

I would try to get yours running before tearing into it.

Mostly original with only 1800 miles...

Yeah, when I started reading this, I too noticed reference to "Mufflers" and also another fork assy. w/Disc brake and I was confused. either one (T250 or TS250) would have been cool. Congratulations, you should be able to have some fine times with that one, with minimal work. As has been said, crank seals are prime subject of replacement. 2 Stroke has got to have the crankcase sealed properly, to run properly. I had a TS125 one time, that was a pretty decent runner, but that was the only Suzuki I have had. Enjoy.  ;)

Hello Bob,

There is sure is bunch of experience on here for restoration advice for all bikes in general.  There is a good dedicated Suzuki forum http://www.suzuki2strokes.com/forum/index.php also with a bunch of good people who will be able to help with Suzuki 2-st specific advice.

Cheers  Geoff
