Rear Sets fitting for CB 750k
« on: February 27, 2017, 07:12:44 AM »
Hi all

I'm currently almost done with my project of turning a CB 750 of 1972 into a cafe racer. The last item that i need to add is rear sets. I cannot afford buying brand new rear sets, the price is too high for me and then i'd like to know if it possible to fit a sport bike rear sets to my CB 750. I found some used sport bike rear sets for a very competitive price that i can afford.

Can you please let me know if such conversion can be done ?

many thanks for your help

It can be done but it is not easy.  Ready for welding, fabricating, and lots of fiddling to get workable linkage rods.  Sport bike rearsets are all set up to operate a MC, not a rear drum so lots of tinkering is the result.
If it works good, it looks good...

Hi

Thank you for your answer

do you know by chance if any vintage bike with drum brake had rearsets ? i might maybe look for an old rearset which would cost me less than a brand new one

thank you

Only one I can think of right now is early model cb400f.  The pegs will bolt onto a cb750f0/1 and probably all other cb750 models except F2/3 but you will have to come up with a shortened brake pedal and shifter.  The pegs will move back about 2" and up about 1", an excellent sporty but still relaxed riding position, maybe just enough for clubmans/clip-ons and perfect for superbike bars...and another plus is the fold up right side peg, so you can still use the kick start.

Other than that, maybe you have a salvage yard nearby?...look for pegs that could be flipped side to side so that the mount goes up and back instead of forward and down and shorter brake and shift levers.

Hang out at your local race track when AHRMA or other vintage race orgs. are in town and check out what these guys have done.  Read as many race bike build threads as you can find.
If it works good, it looks good...

You might want to look into using the controls from a Honda CB72/77. The brake is cable operated and the footpegs are adjustable. RR

yes the length of the linkage rod has a certain amount of adjustment but you will still have to get the foot peg solidly mounted so that the linkage works smoothly and correctly.

You are not thinking of using the passenger peg mount, are you?...these are wayyy too far back unless you have gargantuan long arms.  You want the ball of your foot on the peg right under your butt

No I'm thinking of building a homemade tab that I'll use to mount the rearset

No, Ami. I mean from the mid-60's Honda Superhawk 250/305. The left side is also an adjustable rearset... RR

could not find used part for nighthawk, I'll try to look for other sport bike rear sets, such as CBR or Hayabusa..
