How did you attatch your controls onto your cafe bars?
« on: March 21, 2017, 07:58:09 PM »
Hello,

I have a cb350f and I am trying to reattach the on/off throttle controls on the right hand side of the handlebars.
I drilled a hole so the little metal part can sink into the handle bars however I am having trouble screwing in the screws to keep the control in place.
The cords that are supposed to go in the handle bars are getting pinched between the controls and handle bar.

I am stuck and don't know what to do to make this work.
I would greatly appreciate any tips or tricks.

Thanks!

Cut a little notch in the control so th wires sit snugly.

Measure from end of old bar to hole. Mark on new bars. Use a step drill. Drill thee overlapping holes in bars. File smooth. You can get a hole that looks very close to what original looks like. Tape ends of wires together. I spray soapy water on wires and push and pull through

You're going to need to cut a hole in the bars at the control, and @ center of the upper trip mount to run the wires internally.
I ran wires internally on my 350Fs eurobars.  Not difficult to do.   Just be sure there are no sharp edges on your new holes.  Prevent/protect bar wires from short/ground as you pull them thru.

Unfortunely I bought bars that will not allow internal wiring

They are cafe but a lot less agressive that's why I like them.

I guess I could wire them through the top of the right side since the handles are hollow. Hmm what do you guys think?

1. Cut out a piece from the original oem switch
2. Put them through the bar to pop out the top part of the handle bar( hopefully cables are long enough)

3. Drill a hole where the wires would go in but don't wire through. Just to have them tuck in there so I can externally feed them into the bucket.

That is exactly what I want to try.

Any pics of the bike?

Cant run wires internally with a pinched connection there at the bends.  They do make clubmans which are not pinched, which wires can be internally run.
I say trim the control and run the wires externally.  It can look nice if you cover the wires with a nice mesh tube.

Current Honda replacement controls are made with a notch for external wiring already cast in. RR

So you think it wouldn't be practical to cut out alittle space in the handlebars so the wires can sit in so the controls could come together and still have it externally.

I agree cutting a notch in the controls is easier and better but they are from the 70's oem :(

Also, when tightening the four bolts that hold the handle bars in and the status lights,  what is the proper tightening procedure? Honda says the two front ones and then the rear.

So that's the two closest to the bucket right? Tighten those two down and then the two closest to the seat. When I do so I can see a little gap on the rear side making me think it's not pressured evenly unless this is just how it goes?

Yeah but that's 1970s vintage controls :(

You already cafe'd the bike what diff does it make if you modify the controls? I did it on a resto but 95% of people gawking will never know the difference. File down the alignment nub and file out where the wires go through and put some extra tape there to prevent chaffing. Use some large zip ties to hold the wires in place.
