1977 CB550K Engine # and VIN Are Different?
« on: April 26, 2017, 04:08:58 pm »
So I strangely never noticed this before, but the VIN on my 1977 CB550K is CB550K-2010964, but the number on my engine is CB550E-2010955.

Is this normal? I know the K and E are supposed to be different, but does this mean that my bike doesn't have the original motor in it? Just trying to figure out if my bike had the motor swapped at some point in its life.

Thanks as always! I can provide pictures if needed.

They do NOT match from the factory. Not on any SOHC. You're fine. the VIN and engine serial tell you the year in which they were made, not which frame had which motor. The VIN tag and the neck should always agree (etched into he right side is the correct frame VIN).

Appreciate the insight Calj...I finally have my bike purring really well and running like a top, I was starting to worry I had a frankenstein or something. Thanks again.
