Oil Pump Inner Shaft Seal replacement
« on: June 10, 2017, 01:03:32 PM »
I'm doing a rebuild on my oil pump assembly.

Has anyone out there ever replaced this seal?
How do I get the existing one, that seems to be pressed in, out of there?
I have not tried anything yet. Heat might be the next step, but am looking for any experience here.

I have attached a pic of the pump and the new seal. The new seal has a metal ring outside holding the rubber seal.

Thanks for any help!

Hey guys, I was able to get this out pretty easily after all.
Here is what I did...

1. Get a 1/16" (small) drill bit
2. Mount the pump assembly in a vise
3. Remove any remaining part of the rubber seal
4. Drill into the edge of the metal part of the seal, being careful not to go through it into the pump.
5. Drill slowly, you just want to put a small dimple into it.
6. Get a punch that has a point that will fit into the dimple
7. Use the punch as a lever to pop out the metal seal. I used a hammer to tap the end quick and sharp.
