750 Engine in a 750A body
« on: June 23, 2017, 02:59:21 PM »
I'm interested in starting a build with a relatively good condition '77 750A. Would it be possible to swap a '75 SOHC 750 engine into the frame? Are there going to be any issues regarding the clutch/wiring etc? Thanks!

I think the lack of an oil tank might cause some problems

Old Scrambler would be a go to guy for this. He uses an A frame in his land speed bike with a late model K engine. Unfortunately he is scrambling around Alaska somewhere.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

jonnycakes  is right you have to come up with an oil tank. i did this in the past and i fabbed my own tank and modified the oil lines to and from the engine to fit the oil tank.mine was a k71 and with a few spacers in the right spots the engine fit in with little work

are you trying to stick a K motor into an A frame. it can be done, no problem. You will need an A gas tank, the K gas tank wont fit.

You will also have to locate one of the old chopper-shop "wet sump" oil pans and the oil pump pickup extension: this might be tough!
Otherwise, you will have troubles trying to locate an oil tank into the "A" frame.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR MORE POWER GENERALLY HERE'S WHAT I'VE DONE AND IT SEEMED TO WORK ON MY WIFE'S HONDAMATIC TRIKE PROJECT-JUST FINISHED. I REMOVED THE MUFFLERS AND STOCK AIR BOX. I INCREASED THE JETS FROM STOCK 1.08'S TO 1.32. THROUGH YOU MAY WANT TO TRY 1.28'S OR 1.30'S FIRST. IF I WANTED EVEN MORE POWER I WOULD CHANGE UP TO 836 CC KIT AND K HEADS. AS YOU MAY KNOW, HONDA REDUCED THE HP IN HONDAMATIC (750A) ENGINES FROM 67HP IN THE 4 SPEED MODELS TO 47. I KNOW IT WAS ACCOMPLISHED BY LOWERING THE COMPRESSION RATIO.
THERE IS ALSO A VERY GOOD POST IN THIS FORUM THAT GIVES AND EXCELLENT EXPLANATION OF HOW TO GET MORE POWER FROM A HONDAMATIC THRU HEAD CHANGES ETC.
GOOD LUCK---FRISCO
