350f not starting after rebuild
« on: July 09, 2017, 10:16:19 AM »
hey y'all,

a while back my cb350f was losing power and had a lot of noise from the cylinders. after it died on me i took apart the top end to find that i had a broken piston ring. i changed them out, deglazed my jugs, and put the engine back together. it ran with a sputter, and some backfiring. on a test ride, it died on me. i didn't trust the cheap rings that i used so i changed them out again, and now it won't start.

i am getting spark from all plugs/wires, getting gas, and the pistons are moving freely. the timing marks are lined up. **there was a hiccup when the bushing from the cam chain tensioner fell into the engine and was obliterated. i retrieved and replaced it and now i can turn the engine over smoothly. still no start though. any ideas appreciated. please and thanks

Have you checked for crap in the carb float bowls?

Verified compression?

Did you heed the shop manual warnings regarding the Cylinder cover installation?

I just checked the compression and I had zero. the gauge literally did not move. when I covered the spark plug holes with my finger I could feel suction on the downstroke.
