Broken chain...broken case...Question
« on: July 18, 2017, 06:58:12 PM »
My Son was riding his 78 CB750K home from work today and had the chain break.  Well after he pushed it 3.6 miles to his home he finds out that the case is broken.  I have been reading about the different ways to fix this and the one question I have is how do you get any little pieces out of the case that may be in there?  Or do you just not worry about it?  Thanks for any help.

Bummer! :(

If you drop the oil pan you might get lucky and find all the pieces there.

To fix it properly you got to split the cases.
Good news, you can leave topend on.
Be careful who you get to weld it.. And tell them not to grind it flat for you if you can do it yourself.. They often go too deep.

He is ok so not such a big deal.  Thanks for the replies.  I will pop down his way this weekend and I am sure we can have it back on the road as soon as the new chain arrives.  This bike just needs to make it the rest of this season so it looks like JB Weld may be the answer.   I will let the next owner know and he will have to make the call as to doing it the correct way.  Sounds like it is getting the oil pan dropped and a new oil change.  Thanks again.

Find another cheap running engine for a quick swap and fix the broken one in winter? If living in USA you'll find 100 bucks engines now and then, right? Price of a gasket and oil seal kits.

+1
Repair and ride knowing one small piece of case tossed up into your trans and you're done.
Replacement engines are cheap.
