Hi Everyone,

I am finally starting a complete build of this basket of parts I bought about 4 years ago.

Since I bought the bike, i have been lurking around here for information and ideas, but finishing my degree took all my time and money for awhile.

Anyways, I am ready to get started!!

I plan on doing a 836cc rebuild to the engine and this is where I will start.

I started pulling apart the engine and using cardboard cutouts / sharpie , ziplocks, etc to hopefully keep everything organized.

So far I have had to drill out 10 bolts as these old Japanese style Phillip heads crumble under any pressure :P

I better note that this is my first motorcycle build!

I am looking to start ordering parts and I aim to get as much reliable horsepower as I can while not destroying my budget... ie. the best bang for your buck, without cutting any corners!

Here is what I think I need:

Wiseco 836cc 10 1/4 compression
Full gasket set
Heavy Duty cam chain
Billet cam
Heavy duty valve springs
Heavy duty studs
Adjustable Cam Sprocket
Cylinder Hone (tool to fit cordless drill)
New Rubber Pucks
Single bolt cam shaft holders (for 1hp :P) read this somewhere
New OEM Primary Chains (Ebay Iron_Horse_Honda Terry Quail, $70.00 per set)
OEM cam chain tensioner, wheel, and guide

Is it worth it to just get a kit from Cycle X or Dynoman? or just source the individual parts?

This basket did have some boxes for new parts so I will have to inspect everything to see if anything was replaced.

I have a Wiseco 836 kit for sale in the classifieds right now no one has firmly committed to if you're interested.

You don't need the honing tool if you are having your cylinders bored to 836. Rear machine shop will take care of that already.

So I am finally getting back to the motor and I can't get the starter motor out.

I have read about how it can be pretty difficult and to keep trying but I have tried everything.

Any suggestions??

In the middle of drilling out the counter shaft bearing holder screws.....

Sounds like you could use a set of JIS screwdrivers. :)

Made some progress last weekend and split the cases!

Pretty excited to be getting to the guts! Will be checking all of the internals tonight and ordering parts.

I tried every trick that I could find online to remove the 4 screws on the transmission bearing cover. Impact, dremel and flat head etc, to no avail.

I read on this forum to drill it out with a 6mm, the head will pop off, and there will be enough left to spin it out with vice grips.

It looks to pretty much be flush..... What are my options to get these out??

Also, I am still unable to get that damn starter motor out... any suggestions?

Once the x is drilled out on thevt screws, try a left hand drill bit.
Try not to go as big as the thread size.
 Starter motor should lift out easy if  bolts are out and cylinder is off, but it must slide towards center of engine, before going up.

Do you guys think a clutch upgrade is a good idea with this 836cc engine?
