Eclipse 2017
« on: August 04, 2017, 06:45:10 AM »
Not sure if there is a thread, but wondering if anyone lives in the total eclipse zone or is going to see it.
I live in NoCal and was planning on making the journey but not able to now.
thanks, Mark

Yep, I'll be taking that day off to mosy up near St. Joe on my motorscooter. I might stay Kansas side to avoid all the insanity over the border.

My son is a high school physics teacher. He is going to Missouri to cover it and then do a presentation for his classes. Should be very interesting to see.

The Yamaha-Enduro forum, from one of the members.

"We are dead center here in Casper, WY, and all the hotels have been sold out for over a year. People are Air B&B-ing their houses for up to $8,000 a night...I kid you not. But at my house, we will have a dozen astrophysicists and astrophysics majors, as my older son just graduated last year with an astrophysics degree, and he is bringing up all his classmates and fellow grads from CU Boulder. They are bringing all sorts of cameras, telescopes, and other instruments with them, and I would gather can answer any question I might have.
My wife is in the Wyoming Symphony, and they have a big pre-eclipse concert planned, and there is hoopla left and right to scalp the tourists. LE here figures we may have an extra 35,000 people in town; our normal pop is about 55,000.
Me? I just wanna sit on the porch and watch it get dark."
thanks, Mark

Well, I had to do the opposite of storm chasing yesterday to try and get a few glimpses.
Got to see totality and see a few mountains on the waxing side!

It got eerily chilly and quiet here in Seattle.  We got to 90% +/-

I think my favorite part were the eclipse shapes on the ground.

A friend of mine in Boise, ID shot and sent me these...

Great pics, Fly.  All I witness down here were the very cool eclipse shapes on the ground. This was under a large oak tree...

Very cool!   I wasnt even thinking eclipse just before I snapped that pic.  I was walking on a walkway at work like I've done countless times and the unique shadow caught my attn, then I thought eclipse!
