He cut off the connector? you mean there are individual spade terminals that plug into the terminal fixed to the bottom of the switch? The switch on the '79 650 should be the same as the one on the 75-77 550F and 77-78 550K (the warning light dash is the same, so I assume the switch is too.

You can find a copy of the color wiring diagram here: http://circuitswiring.com/circuit-diagrams/14/2011/01/Honda-CB65079-electrical-wiring-diagram.jpg

Don't use generic spade connectors. Go to www.vintageconnections.com and order the proper male and female bullet terminals. If you need the female end of the harness that plugs into the switch, vintage connections sells the plastic housing and the proper female spade terminals that fit it so that you can get that part of the harness back to stock.

The connections are pretty straight forward once you spend some time with a diagram.

Red = power in. This comes off a terminal at the starter solenoid
Black = power to the fuse block
brown = tail light (there is also an unused brown wire in the headlight shell)
brown/white = front running lights and gauge lights

If you need to know which terminal on the switch goes to which terminal on the harness I can answer that for you later when I get home, or someone with easy access to their bike can tell you now.

I need to know the wires off the switch and I plan on ordering it I just want to get a start up so I can justify continuing with the build.

Does the connection at the switch have 5 terminals? 3 on one side and 2 on the other with the 2 separated by a blank space?

OK. When I get home tonight I will see if I can get to mine to give you the correct colors. I am pretty sure that the top two are the red and black while the bottom three are 2 brown and one brown/white

So sorry for the delay. Here is the layout on my 550

With the switch in place, looking down from the seat the two terminals at the top are brown/white on the right and brown on the left. The bottom 3, left to right are black, red, brown.
