Fell into one of these on my new Street Triple
« on: September 19, 2017, 10:51:28 PM »
Was out for a Sunday ride and on a busy stretch of road back home I rode straight into/over a sunken manhole cover. The photo isn’t the same one but looks pretty much like it. It was probably a bit deeper but had perfectly smooth curved edges, not like a reg pothole.

I was going about 50mph and saw it too late to steer out the way so braved myself (all150lbs) and raised my ass of the seat. It wasn’t as bad as I thought, definatly a hard bump/thud but was quite stable and didn’t actually feel as scary as I thought in that split second. On other bikes I would have been holding on for dear life!

I didn’t hear any bang like the suspension bottoming out (at least I.dont think so) and the wheel and tires look fine and no oil coming from the front fork.

Do you think I would need to take it in for a check over or could have possible damaged anything that I can see or feel? Or tell me if I’m being paranoid :-/ my other bikes have been basic and l haven’t been a highly tuned machine like this.

How do you add a damn photo on here?

Paranoid.
Give her a good check over, looking mainly at the front rim for any flat spots.
Try riding around in my town with all the earthquake damage.

Tires these days are much better than the stuff from the 60's....you are probably ok. In my experience , I always think safty first, so,
slowly take it for a spin and if you feel wheel hop, don't assume the worst. It could be one of the wieghts fell off.  Happened to me a few times. Never bent a rim on a street bike, but did do so on many dirt bikes after hitting rocks, trees, etc etc.

Take a real close inspection of the rim and sidewalls and look for signs of a small cut or signs of damage from a pinch.  Hard to see, but should be looked at.

I was more worried about any fork damage. If the wheel mans tire is okay can I assume the fork is okay too?

Unlikely for the forks to be damaged/bent, rims and/or tires are your primary concern
