Have you ever seen something like that
« on: September 20, 2017, 07:40:56 AM »
Hi folks

Look at this guy is able to do with his old SOHC bike, pretty amazing. I'm wondering what type of suspensions he has to be able to do that. With my CB 750, anytime i hit a small bump in the road i feel that my fork is gonna break..

Any bike can be jumped  lol  ;D
No special suspension...watch the vid.  He totally bottoms out the front  ::)
You can even see it flex.  More like 'punishing' the old girls  ::)

Adding progressive front springs can help doing that ?

On that ramp?  No.
I wonder how much tread he applied to the underside of the seat pan  ::)

then if it's not progressive front spring that makes the difference, i guess it is more for rear suspensions..

I don't know what 'difference' you're trying to describe.
I just see a guy in a vid beating on an old (stock susp) bike  :-\

It's likely not stock, the rear would bottom quickly.
I have a 350 XL that was used as a stunt bike, it did about a dozen drops of 10 plus feet at speed.
The front feels pretty normal.. the back is like aboard, bouncing on the seat barely moves the rear shocks.
I get the feeling the frame has bent upward in the shock mount area.  That is Ok thought since I found out they used a 465 Yamaha camera bike to do the same job, and broke the frame first try.. long live the XL..

Looks like someone is training for the IoM race.  There will be a new Hipster Class taking the course next year.  Participants will have knobby tires, no safety gear, and tech inspections will be waived for all.

Joking aside, insta-stunt-man's jump ramp wasn't so bad.  He gassed it a little hard bringing the front up.  Otherwise he had good form.
It's not the distance of the jump that's bad on suspension.  It's the altitude.  Just ask Evel.  His old triumphs could fly, but if he overshot the landing ramp.  Thats when things turned sour.

Ok gotcha.  I just remember the first time I saw him in the early 70,s he was riding harleys.   Triumphs or harley not good bikes for what he was doing. He would of been lots better on a dirt type bike lol

I just visited the Evel Knievel museum in Topeka, KS yesterday. In additional to the Triumphs and Harleys, in his early days he also jumped a Laverda 750 twin that was being marketed in the US under the American Eagle brand name.
