76 CB750F headlight bracket area
« on: October 05, 2017, 07:59:11 PM »
I'm slowly getting my bike back together but I can't find a reference anywhere for assembling the headlight bracket and the stuff behind it.

I've checked the service manual, parts fiche, the web and these forums but no luck. I'm hoping someone with a 76 F F can help me out.

First question is about the three threaded holes on the neck of the frame. What attaches there?

Second question, there are two flanged screws underneath above the neck on the tree. In the picture they are at the top and have been powdered over.

Lastly, it looks as if the bottom of the headlight bracket has grommets that drop into the holes in the lower part of the tree but the top is confusing. The two circular openings at the top line up with the bracket for the gauges but I can't see how it gets secured. There's no way it could be a press fit...very strange.

Shame on me for not taking pictures before the teardown. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Pictures of it all together would be awesome.

Grab a copy of the parts list. It has exploded diagrams.  :)

I have the parts list and have checked it. It does a great job of detailing the assembly of the headlight onto it's bracket but I don't see where it shows how that assembly attaches to the bike. Likewise for my other questions.

First - nothing

Second - flanged screws??

Third - yes on your first part. Rubber 'grommets' fit over the bottom leg ends of the bracket which then fit it the holes as you've described. The top part 2 holes goes together with the top tree and the gauges/gauge mounting bracket going through the holes with elongated nuts holding everything in place. There are rubber bushing pieces and metal pieces that fit into the holes. I'd text you some pics but I  wont be home until sat pm.
