found these in my oil
« on: November 11, 2017, 06:12:18 PM »
I drained the oil out of my 550 and ran a pick-up magnet through it and it picked up these little guys.  They are small fine kinked wires all of the same length.  The only thing I can think of is the oil screen.  Do they fail?

BTW I know the resolution of my camera is bad - its a $10 trac-fone.

I think we will need a better resolution photo to see anything meaningful there.

Screens can break.  Though, unlikely in a good clean engine!
Drop the pan to inspect.

If you’ve been having cam chain issues, that could be a cut from the tensioner/guide.

If someone ties up the cam chain while working on it, and uses very fine wire, some ends may have fell down.

Hard to tell from the image... but fine kinked wires of equal length... could they be from a wire brush or wire wheel?  Engine apart or open for any work in recent history?

Yeah I know - I am not anti technology, I just don't see spending a lot of money on cell phones and cell phone service.  I just don't use them that much.  The cameras in those things are absolutley phenominal though.  I used to be a camera buff back in the day of film, but lost interest when digital came about.

Okay, back on track; I will pull the pan off in the morning (gota go drink tonight!) so we'll see whats going on.

Thanks
Todd
