Requesting opinions on bike values
« on: January 28, 2018, 05:39:35 AM »
Hey everybody, my dad recently passed and we're starting to wade through his collection. With that, he's got several bikes that I'm not even sure where to start with in pricing them.

1975 Honda CB125S (about 1100 miles and good condition)
1976 Honda GL1000 (naked wing). Yellow, 17000 miles. Good condition
1977 Honda CB750A - blue, moderate condition (few dents in the tank) but runs well
1982 Kawasaki KZ1000LTD full dress, 60k+ miles, not running currently
1972 Kawasaki H2 (currently in boxes...i might restore this one but still dont know how to price it)

I know there are more as we start clearing out some of the sheds. Thanks.

Thanks. This is the tip of the iceberg on the bikes. We might end up keeping the yellow goldwing but nothing else has sentimental attachment...besides the blue bike in my avatar photo.

And so far I've brought back the 125 to get it running. It's missing the left side cover but it's pretty well preserved otherwise.

Figure running bikes are worth more than non-running and darn near everything he had has been running within the past couple years.

Sorry to hear of your loss.   Possibly interested in the H2. Got pics?

I bought my '74 H2 as a basket case for $3K and it came with an untitled H2 roller [still looking for a motor].

FYI - they are very expensive to restore correctly, parts can be hard to find and costly when found. Especially oil pump and lines.

Heres mine, finished back in Oct...

Thanks and I'll keep you posted. I havent unearthed the H2 just yet. I'm focusing on the easier to get at ones at the moment and it's stashed in the back of the shed. Plus i have finite garage space and trying to get as much done as I can before my car gets back from paint.

It has a clean title and I believe most if not all of the parts are there. There's also an extra case but it was in one of the other sheds that the weather got to.

Also, anyone ever heard of a CD175? <--not a typo. There's one of those in the back too...sans carb but i'm sure it's around there somewhere as well. My pops was a bit of a hoarder.

CD 175 has a single carb, the others have 2. Might also be 4 speed instead of 5..

Excellent thanks again! I'll be making another trip up there in a few weeks and will take another look at the neck stamp. It's blocked in by the biggest air compressor I've ever seen...I'll take some photos the next time i'm up there.

If you put CD175 into the search for this site, there are a few members here who either have one or are familiar about them.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Mine passed away 14 years ago, next month. I still miss him. I treasure everything I have still from him, and occasionally pull out another shirt from the box of them my mom gave me... sometimes, I can still smell him on them, brings back fond memories of him.
Frank's right, consider carefully which things you want to keep to remember him... looks like the CB750A might be one of them. Is that the one in your Avatar?

@Yamahawk
No the one in my avatar is a 78 CB750F that he and I bought in the late 90's. Was the first big bike that he and I got running. When I redid it to what it is now a few years ago he was really proud. I'll never sell it...even if i wreck it.

The yellow wing is the only one of the bikes (aside from my F) that really triggers anything. I'm also keeping the 66 mustang convertible I built for him a few years ago. We only made it to one show but we spent the weekend cruising around in it. That was about 2 weeks before he passed and will be among my fondest memories. That was the top of his prized possessions list too.

He was a bit of a hoarder though. We have 3 barns, shed, 3 conex trailers, and a few box trailers that are pretty well loaded up with stuff. Some of the stuff we're finding is pretty amazing...a lot of it is pretty tired but still impressive. Supposedly there's a 38 knuckle somewhere on the lot he mentioned a few times. None of us have seen it and, in our family, it's kind of been a bit of a unicorn. There's a 69 Grand Prix SJ we uncovered. Lots of old tractors.

I'll post some pic's as I start getting deeper.

@Stev-o

It's a 1966. Original 289 car that I worked over. Sits at just under 400 horse. Painted sapphire blue, white top / seats, black carpet.

I am building a 1966 hard top protouring car. It's got a 408, TKO600 5speed, 9" rear (3.70 trutrac), and lots of other little tweaks. Currently at paint.

Sounds beautiful!   My father had a '67 Fastback with a 289, excellent motor.

Although I've always loved vintage cars, I am just getting into it as I finally got one last month.

Mike seems more an Indian guy and I think Frank is more a Harley dude.
