This is an extra used float bowl I got off ebay. They cleaned it up shiny and cut this block off. What do you suppose they used to cleanly chip that off? Chisel? When I screw my screws down all the way they're all off each other, so with bowls screwed on, two will adjustment range in one direction while the other two will have equal range but in the other direction, so that could be a lot of messy testing, gas removing, readjusting/installing, testing etc. So I like the mod. Anyway, I'm new to motorcycles so I want to break any emissions laws or something.

No problem doing that. Unsure which bike or year you've got but later down the line in the SOHC4 they did this...I assume to satisfy the EPA. My friend's newer Ninja had an aluminum cover pressed over the hole where the IMS is. We just drilled it out to access for a cleaning.

Not sure what they used but I would have used a dremel.

On the CB650 VB46 carbs they also have this tab to prevent turning the mixture screws too far, but they also had a plastic cap on the screw which hit the tab. That plastic cap could just be pulled off so no need for grinding the float bowl. You sure that was necessary?

As for the difference in height in the screws, that may be because the screws are different. But theoretically, as long as the screw tips are the same shape they all should use the same setting and perform the same.

Have you removed all the screws to have a look at them?

Back in the 80's that is one of the first things we would do at the shop to make a bike run better.  We usually ground the tab off the pilot screw though....Larry

thanks. good tip with the dremel. knocked them all off easily with a little time. and yes the screws have are the same but I for ex I replaced one o-ring which is a bit different in size I guess and I like the tabs as they allow you to use your fingers under there if need be. I haven't actually tested this out tho I'm assuming this is an advantage.
