The two permanently attached header pipes (to the collector) have some pitting/discoloration/maybe it's even rust or rust remnants on the insides of the top curves.   Will it be really visible once on the bike-----maybe not, but while everything's apart I figure they should get some attention to see if they can be cleaned up.

The other headers/collector are in pretty clean condition, so not looking to invest to re-finish the whole lot, just bring these areas back to "decent looking".

I've gone at them with some 0000 steel wool, some metal polish (the various metal polish products out there all seem to behave a little different too eh?), but wondering if anyone has any suggestions or ideas of other products/approaches that might do some good?

Thanks in advance

chrome polish with 0000 steel wool is the best remedy I have found
If it works good, it looks good...

Not necessarily saying that it is gonna work any better than the metal polishes you have already tried.

Try some aluminum foil. People say with CocaCola on it, that's too messy for me. I like turtle wax chrome cleaner too.

I hear ya on the 'pitting is forever' comment...and you're right---I have no illusions of getting rid of 100% of it without serious coin.

I have tried the coca cola/aluminum foil trick on other bits....it works well to take down raised 'bumps' of rust on chrome etc....    they say even to use diet coke, and let it go a bit flat too.

might try come of that here too....

thanks all!
