Tank Rubber Mount Help
« on: March 11, 2018, 09:39:47 PM »
Hey folks,

Trying to fit a cx Deluxe tank on my cb. The rubber mounts are in the right place, just don’t reach out far enough to make contact with the cx Mount in the tank because the tank is a bit wider. Any suggestions on compensating for the distance, safely?

Are you referring to the front two rubber donuts the the tank located onto... or the rear rubber mount? If it is the front two, you might look for some longer rubbers from a different bike to make up the distance, or bonding on a piece or rubber from another set, cut to length. If the distance is too great, cutting off the u shape on the tank on each side and shimming it with some plate tacked on will work. Careful welding and tank cleaning is a priority here for safety. How much room are you needing to compensate for?

It is 1 1/2" total width wider than the CB750 tank then, so you will have to see if there is a way to extend the tube on the frame by 3/4" and reinstall the rubber donuts. I would get some thin plate, and a piece of tubing the same diameter and length as the ones on the frame, and tack them on the plates, and tack the plates on the existing tube mount for the donuts, and then install the rubber donuts on the new tube... am I making sense? Hopefully so. And, if you need to move the tank forward or back, up or down, on those mounts, it would be easy to do by adjusting the tube tacked onto those plates, by the size and location of the plates you will tack onto the existing tube.
