Strong engine sound but no counterparty engine power
« on: March 19, 2018, 04:20:36 AM »
Hi guys

Another topic on the proper tuning for a 750 K that is not stock, with k&n pod filters and a 4 into 1 exhaust instead of 4 into 4. My bike was running too lean, with white plugs.

I've recently upgraded my main jet from the stock 105 to 115 and changed the needle setting from the stock middle, 3rd notch to the 4th notch.

Air screw is set to 1 turn.

However, there no enough throttle response yet. When accelerating from idle and when running in 1st and 2nd gear, acceleration is not very strong.

---> What is a bit weird is that there is a very strong engine sound / noise, but there is no counterparty acceleration / power.

I even thought about making a video so you guys can look at what i'm describing.

I've checked ignition and did the 3000 miles routine maintenance, including a carb cleaning.

I'm now going to upgrade my slow jet from 40 to 42 to give some more fuel when accelerating from idle.

Any opinion or thoughts on the tuning ?

Do your revs go up?.....if so check your clutch.

He is insinuating that your clutch may be slipping, revs go up but the bike does not move. Are you still running points and condensers.  Bad condensers can make it run like crap. I sold an F0 to a friend and he chased his tail with carb mods until he changed those then all was good again.
Next time you have it running put a wet rag on the header pipes by the engine and compare the 'sizzle' to see if all four pots are firing the same.

just checked my condenser and ignition saturday to check if everything is firing correctly. Indeed, made some adjustments and now my 4 cylinders are firing.

And yes, clutch my be slipping. But let just add something, this strong engine sound vs lack of power, is not only when accelerating from idle, i.e, pressing the throttle to move the bike. No it is as well when clutch is released and bike is in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear for instance..

Don't know if this is related but when i switch to first gear, it slips back to neutral half of the time, which is very disturbing!

The most common problem with the 750 tranny is it slipping from second to neutral while under a load. Usually bad shift dawgs on the sides of the gear are the cause of that.

I'd say you are under jetted for your mods first off.
Second, sounds like you don't know if you are hitting all 4 cylinders reliably.
Some of your statements are pretty confusing, where are you located?
Do you have any experience working on motors or motorcycles?
Do you have a shop manual?

Sounds like your running lean. Did I miss what year? Pd41a carbs? When the engine is starving for fuel it has to work a lot harder. Almost feels like your geared too low.
