Also, I meant stock coils probably wouldn't be the best because they're 40 years old.
Copper wire "coils" inside them. Shielded from the air, will stay copper for centuries. Won't oxidize or change properties. The insulation inside them is also shielded from the elements. Keep the blow torch off them and the internal insulation will remain functional.
The core is steel. Also shielded from the air. will not rust or change properties for centuries. Coils are very simple machines, akin to rocks in stamina.
Not everything old is bad. Some things old are better than many things new. Be careful believing marketing hype that everything old must be replaced with new. New is not always better, except for relieving your wallet of unnecessary bloat, and moving it to marketeers and salesmen coffers.
Now, coils can go bad. But, they can also be tested in isolation for proper function. If the test fails, replace them. Replacing a working part with another working part, is wasteful, and unnecessary in my opinion.
The stock coils are often better than aftermarket offerings, depending on the design parameters that interest you the most. Aftermarket offerings are there to make someone money, not necessarily for your benefit, and with materials that make them the most money. Stock coils were made with known quality materials. Can you say the same for aftermarket? Or only make assumptions?
But, if you've got money burning a hole in your pocket, best get it out of there so someone else can make use of it.
Cheers,
