Chain link riveters
« on: May 09, 2018, 12:23:31 PM »
I like clip links but they're going out of fashion and I can't find a replacement for my wife's bike. So it looks like I have to foray into the world of riveted master links. Any recommendations on type/brand and technique? I have no idea. Thanks

Out of fashion in what way? Every major chain company I have seen still gives you the choice and properly applied, they are every bit as strong and far easier to maintain from a removal standpoint. That and if you want the extra security, a couple wraps of safety wire around the side plate and clip will guarantee it wont pop off.

Not so. EK no longer makes the clip link for the chain on my wife's bike. That's why I'm asking.

Greg - I looked on the Motion Pro site and the small riveter claims not to be usable on EK links. My wife's chain is EK. Are you installing the hollow nose type of link?

Yes on the hollow-nosed links.  I use mostly RK and Tsubaki chains, but I could swear we used it on an EK chain for my buddy's V-Strom a couple of years ago, but who knows.  I'll look at the chain next time I see the bike.
