Honda CB750 disc Brake set up advantages?
« on: May 11, 2018, 02:55:47 PM »
So I've been seeing front disc brake set up in two different location and wanted to know is there any advantage moving the brake piston behind fork vs the stock set up. I do get a lot of squeaking after I did do the dual brake set up. Wanted to know if this way might help.

It won't help squeaking. The main reason I know of is with the calipers behind the forks they tend to turn the forks straight rather than flop over.  I moved mine to the back on a dual disc 76F and I liked the way it stopped. Those look like 77/78 F forks.

My CB750 front brake can squeel when the fixed pad has no copper paste against the inner part of the caliper. Some pads have a ring as anti squeel.

Hello kaptainkid1,

The reason for placing the calipers behind the fork leg is to minimise the moment of inertia about the turning axis of the forks.  Theoretically this results in slightly faster steering, although you would have to be a danged good/fast rider to notice the difference.

The squeal from my front brake is entirely dependent on the amount of brake pad residue on the rotor. A clean rotor = no squeal.

Getting the rotor resurfaced helps. I am also thinking about getting it drilled. OEM sintered pads also reportedly help.
