« on: May 25, 2018, 03:07:09 PM »
Just wondering if you and Trey were going to race at Commerce tomorrow. Its a chance to test before you haul those bikes up to Rockingham.

Well, no, wish we were testing,  but we're meeting a customer on the K1 mid morning.  Gotta have $ for next week,  lol. Finishing up little things, got a shutter button in yesterday,  stay tuned......

Bill, I hope you meeting went well and the bike sold for your asking price. Y'all did a great job getting it done.

I wanted to get some testing in myself before the upcoming Cup race. I decided to park the F Model until I can find time to freshen it up. In the meantime, I've decided to pull my Kawasaki out of the corner to prep it for the Crazy 8's (8.88 index) class for the Rockingham race. I've got to pull the cams to re-shim one of the exhaust valves due to tight clearances. I've been tweaking the multistage lockup clutch also to set it up for a quicker reaction time. The plan is to finish this one by Wednesday, then change oil in the other two dragbikes so I can be loaded and ready to go to the track early Friday afternoon. I'm planning to run the no bar KZ in Crazy 8's but in street ET as well so I can get extra seat time. I'll run the other bar bike in super comp and pro ET. Gladys will enter pro ET as usual. I've got my fingers crossed the rain will go away. There's a high % chance all 3 days😳.

I'll see you fellas up there if all works out as planned.

Hey, I might need your help in the off season to build the top end of a DOHC 450 engine for a chopper project. I've been putting this off for a while now. I haven't done one of these engines in over 40 years and the cams could trip me up. Did I say 40 years?? Dang!!!

FRANK: Pull the cams to change the shim = you must have buckets over the small shim ? I liked the big shims set up so I could use my little hand held tool to press the spring down and get shim with a magnet. I seen one motor that spit a shim but I would bet he over revved the motor and had a very loose clearance. Those KZ's are hard to kill but a little checking for spec's can make them live a long time. Still got my shim box with many sizes = remember numbers down.

Pops, its a shim on bottom set up. Running web cam shafts, 480/460 lift. This bike has been 8.50' -.60' a few times but its set up for 8.88 index. Not sure I'd chance with shim on top with nitrous oxide. By the way, I'm running low on shims, would you be interested in selling your stash??

Hey Bill, we missed you in Commerce. Cha cha said he tried to get you to come. Lol

It was a double race day. I entered both the pro class and the street bike class. Ran my car tire Kaw in pro in the first race. I made one round but lost on a crappy reaction time in the next. I took the Honda to race in the street class. Dialed a 10.62 in the first round but red lighted for the loss. In race two, I decided to only race the Honda in the street class. Got down to the final 3 bike and had to race the current track champ. He dialed a 10.73 to my 10.65. Light came down and when I launched the bike I knew I was in trouble because I bogged just a tad. All I could do was watch the tail end of that little Kaw all the way down the track. I never caught him. He also cut a better light. All in all, a decent day of racing.

Next event is this weekend. ET bracket and 5.60 index class- 1/8th mile track.

Dragracer/Frank, Hey brother David here. I'm staying with Bill now. We hopefully will be racing this coming weekend at Commerce, weather permitting. Your bikes look great, really cool. I use to have an 836 Arlen Ness chopper back in the day. Have a great weekend, looking forward to meeting you at the track.

Hey David,

Glad to have you  onboard here. I know Bill is happy to have you with him, nothing better than family support.

Thanks for the compliments on the bikes. I do my best to at least make my junk somewhat presentable.

Looking forward to hanging out with you fellas soon. Doubt we'll make the next Commerce race or even the Galot Man cup race. We do intend to race at the finals in November.
