Wow, after over 70 years, the search continues : https://www.bbc.com/news/in-pictures-44695562

Looks like they are raising the wrecks also.

Hey Kev I find it interesting that the machine guns have been stripped out.

Are they removed through the two rectengular openings on the upper surface of the wings Bill ?

Do you think they may have had some ordnance people down there first ?

Kev I would think that the A/C wouldn't have flown with those covers off and the frontal view shows part of the wing leading edge missing, not bent and twisted but missing so someone has come along and removed it and with the growth being roughly the same it had to be before the divers got there, ergo if it was a P47 up to 8, 50 caliber mg's and the other possibility is one of the Cat series of naval a/c which I think it is because of the 3 bladed prop , 6, 50 caliber also as a quick glance there are other panels off that look like they had been removed a while ago again because of marine growth. And yeah Lar's it is #$%*ty some people can't let the poor bastards alone.

I believe that is a P47  as the angle of the blades appear to be 90 degrees. The root of the prop below the one sticking up is barely visible.
The wing tips are definitely of a P47 design and thirdly, this appears to be an example of the model they called a “ Razorback “ due to the top ridge that extends from the rear of the cockpit to the vertical stabilizer.

jlh3rd Yeah I'm really not sure if it was a Razorback and I'm too lazy to really go at it, I looked at the gun bays 3  and the canopy and figured it was closer to naval
