How long did they use diecast gas cap on 750 ?

I have a tank I thought was 71 , but now I notice it has a diecast cap.
Anyone know when they switched L

 not much help but 11/69 had one.

 One is stamped steel, one is cast aluminum. Cast would be correct on an early restoration, a stamped one would not. My diecast has a stamped one because of the cost to rechrome the cast one. It will be done some day though.

Thanks Don. Are you saying that the cast aluminum caps are supposed to be chrome plated? My K1 back in the day had the aluminum (bare as a baby's butt) flip cap. Am I not picturing the same thing we are talking about here. My spare/extra tank in the garage has a nekid aluminum one too??????

They are potmetal, a bit more pitting problems than the steel ones..

when did they stop putting the screw on the underside of the cap?my 71 tank has this feature,that I thought was only ko?bill
