1976 CB550F Barnfind
« on: June 04, 2018, 01:52:38 PM »
Hi,

My name is Evan Vaughan, and this is my first project ever. I found this bike in my buddies barn and I got it for 4 hours work at his place. I’m located in a small village in southwestern Ontario. The frame is a 76 550f, but it needs a lot of work. I’m planning on restoring it and hopefully I like this and I keep building new bikes. I’m going to go post it now and all the help I can get is appreciated. Thanks !

I think your bike has a 500 motor, not a 550 in it. It might be a ‘76 frame, maybe an F too, but the engine is not orignalto it.

This is only really important as you go about servicing the engine as the carb model, clutch, cables etc are very different between 500/550 models.

Welcome from SW of Thunder Bay.

These bikes can be resurrected.  Don't be quick to want to tear down the engine.  Get it running first. The carbs will need to be cleaned.  Battery is probably shot.  Drain the old oil put in fresh.  Clean the tank add gas and see what  happens.  My 550 sat for 20+ years.  Last year I did an Ironbutt Association Saddle Sore 1000 on it.
