Here's my big sweetie Roxy.

We rescued her through the Boxer Rescue League about 3 years ago. She had heartworms, ear mites, and a bad case of fleas. The other boxer she lived with was the dominant one so Roxy didn't get to eat much. Pretty sure she was beaten because she's quite a coward around males she doesn't know well. It took no time at all for her to turn into a happy, healthy dog and she's the best I've ever had.

Here's my cat Mavic who was rescued from a one way trip to the humane society by my wife ~16 years ago.
Sadly, our other cat recently died at 18 years old.  Mavic's been in need of a bit more attention since then.

Good on ya, to you and the other riders who've rescued or adopted pets.

Edit: By the way, Dave, that top picture would definitely make an excellent image for a card.  I've used shutterfly.com to produce professional quality cards, and I've and been happy with the results.  On the other hand, given the quality of the photos, you are likely way ahead of me.

Well, just what sort of pets did you think "Cowboy" would have?
« Reply #137 on: April 04, 2007, 09:36:11 AM »
Well, despite growing up on a working cattle ranch, I'm not really much of a cowboy anymore. I do own horses, but my wife and I compete in a very un-cowboy-like sport: three-day eventing.  It's a real hoot, and more fun than chasing cows anyday.

Here's my horse, Soy Capitan, a thoroughbred, getting a flying lesson from my wife:

And another pic of my wife, this time flying on her own horse, Surprise Pony, a mustang. We adopted his mother from the Bureau of Land Management, and she turned out to be pregnant with him. He's a super smart, and willing little bugger.

And finally, our pasture ornament, Echo, snuggling BBBC (AKA Triple BC, or Big Black Barn Cat)

Super Pasty, we just had to put down Ruby, who was 22.  All of a sudden, Miss Kitty is driving us nuts.  What do you suppose that's about?  Is she worried SHE may disappear too?

the first one is asparagus (i call him gus) who i rescued last october as a stray, feral cat. you can see how relaxed he is these days. the second one is hamish also known to the world as fuzzybutt. he got his scottish name when he was born on one of my kilts. number 3 is macavity (i call him mac) who was rescued at the same time as gus. i used to do 3 day eventing and a little fox chasing until recently when onyx, my t-bred andalusian cross died on me last month. great horse, never be another one like him. oh yeah, hamish walks on a leash and loves to go in the car and out to the barn with me, in fact he's a better traveler than my wife. hamish is 11, macavity is around 18 months and gus is between 12 and 14 months old.

edit: the second siamese is bucky-katt called bucky and the little guy at the bottom is rocky the abysinnian, he's really a monkey that looks like a cat

Hamish looks fuzzy all over. ;-) What'd the kilt look like after the birthing?

it just has more character now. i do medieval re-enactment and a 13th century scots kilt shouldnt be all clean and immaculate. theres the stains from the litter being born on it then my blood from sword battles and other unidentifiable spots. i've been wearing that kilt for probably 15 years now. thats the appaloosa i had years ago that i jousted and fox chased on.

this is the horse i lost just last month. he was more like a big, black dog. i could sit in his paddock and he'd come over, lay down and put his big ol' head in my lap.
