Another big Suzuki in the garage.
« on: June 27, 2018, 06:31:54 AM »
Well, I went and did it, again. Picked up a 1983 GS1100ESD a couple of weeks ago. Went to Canada to purchase. Going through Customs with a bike was a new experience, but went fairly well. Been riding the heck out of the bike, runs well, good cosmetics (mostly road grime and age-wear related items). I really like these 1100's, lots of power, good riding position, bullet-proof motor. Had my eye on one of these for a couple of years, I just need to remember how to convert KMh to Mph.... while I'm riding.

With my friend and our wives for bike date night...

After some cleaning & polishing...

Nice. I would like one of those also !

Thanks. It took awhile to find a decent one, mostly stock, that wasn't beat-up or cost an arm and a leg.

Thanks. That's my friend's Katana (he has 3). I don't ride my Katana as often as I should.

The GS1100F is nice, also. I have a thing for these early '80's Suzukis.

You Sure do by looking at your list.   Mine is smooth, fast of course, comfy to ride and handles well.  A bit on the heavy side though...Larry

Nice bike!

Putting your helmet on the mirror can damage the foam liner causing it to crack there if you have an accident. It compressing the foam is a bad thing.

How bad was the importation?

Duly noted, that's my wife's helmet, I'll tell her that David says not to hang the helmet on he mirror. She might listen to you...

Import wasn't terrible, you need a couple of forms downloaded off the internet, EPA Form and Customs Form. Fill out a form at the border, signed title and signed Bill of Sale. Import Duty tax is 3% of the sale price. I had everything I needed, filled out the remaining form at the border, pretty painless. There were about 10-15 people ahead of me for various border-related reasons, so the wait was a little over an hour. Everyone was very helpful, you just have to remember to ask permission for things like, restroom break, etc.

That's about $6,965.00 USD. It looks like a nice bike, but, it's not original. Wheels, front fender, turn signals, exhaust, footpegs have been replaced. Anti-dive has been capped off. Front fairing has been repainted (turn signals and reflector have been removed). Seems like a lot for a non-original bike... Very nice original Katanas are going for $10,000- $14,000, mint condition. If it's a good-running bike, I'd probably try to get it for around $5,000.
