CB650 Headlight issues...
« on: July 06, 2018, 11:07:54 AM »
1981 CB650 base model.  65W/50W dual filament H4 Bulb.

My headlight went out last night, both high and low beams.  Can't for the life of me figure out why.  Fuses are ok, bulbs are ok, pilot indicator bulb is ok (but does not illuminate either).  I've tried new fuses and bulbs anyway to no avail.  I've taken a mulitimeter to the wiring, tested for continuity and voltage.  all blue, white and green wires appear continuous.

Anybody have any ideas?  I'm at my wit's end.

Update:

no power to the high beam wire at the headlight plug when the switch is set to high. The low beam wire has power, yet still does not illuminate...

Power is fine for both high and low beam at the switch.
The blue wire for high beam also appears to be continuous from switch to plug.  What the heck?

Have you tried connecting the lamp directly to a 12 volt source?

Could be the bulb, check for the obvious first.

The LED light on my 550 started to act up last week, it turned out to be carbon build up on the contacts of the starter switch in the right side control. I cleaned the contacts and all was good.

Thanks, your suggestion inspired me to go digging into the right hand controls, found a severed wire on the brake light switch.  Soldered back together and, eureka, everything is illuminated.
