Clip ons and cables

Hello all. Looking to replace the cables on my 75 cb550. I’m thinking I will go to clip ons, does this mean I should get shorter cables? Any advise on best cables for the money?

I ended up having to make my own for my 550, none of the ones I ordered fit correctly no matter how they were adjusted.
