I am thinking red frame silver body, (just got done painting some Harley stuff anniversary silver) right now I am consumed with the mechanical stuff, I have not noticed what people with clipon's do with the top triple clamp to clean it up??

I have not noticed what people with clipon's do with the top triple clamp to clean it up??
I cut and filled my top triple-tree on my CB450 prject (cb750 as well), for a nice clean look.

It is really easier then you might think..

that is nice and clean....when you say fill are we talking weld, epoxy? I can weld the bottom up grind the top down, I was concerned with strength aluminum get pretty soft when it gets hot

I used my grinder and smoothed the tree the best I could. Then I took it to my Chassis shop buddy and had him fill in the holes
with some alum. slag, then went back to town with the grinder to smooth everything out. Alittle hand filing and some sanding and
I was done. I am sure you could use something like JB Weld to fill the holes rather then have them welded.

             Say, I'd like to hear and see more about those pipes and headers that you've made up. Are they one piece or can you separate them? I'd be curious to hear them and hear how they perform. would they be tuned or or they just cut, and welded to fit the bike? You are doing a great job on your bike, by the way. Keep up the good work.  8)

wow, the exhaust design is pretty close to something I´ve drawn up.  Please give some details on what you plan to do about the battery and all the other stuff that usually occupies the space the exhaust partly fills now.

The pipes break down into three pcs, right, left and rear. They are not tuned in any way other than all pipes at all cylinders are the same length so the pressure should be equal across the cylinders.

There is a flange just below the swingarm where the right, left and rear bolt together.

I am not sure about the open frame yet, I am going very minimalistice so if there are side panels they will be aluminum panels with louvers stamped in them.

The electric components will be re arranged and mounted under the seat pan back toward the hump.

I have small flat 6 volt gel cell battery's that will fit the bottom of the seat pan up by the gas tank, I am not sure if they are high enough amprage to crank the engine

          That exhaust sounds like a very cool feature.8)  I wouldn't mind working up something like that myself, for my 77' CB550K project. I was kinda wondering about the side cover area myself. Since I have plans similar to yours, about the electrics, I'm considering leaving that area open. The louvered sluminum side panels do sound cool though. Louvers are definitely vintage! You just planning  on using a single 6volt battery on a 12 volt system? ??? Have you seen StevieMac's Cafe? He's got the electrics and the battery under the seat of his bike. Wouldn't leaving the area open help the heat, from the exhaust, disapate better? Now I'm starting to wonder about putting the electrics and battery under the seat, if I'm also gonna try to do an exhaust system similar to yours. I'm wondering about the heat. Got any ideas on that? ???

No I have 4 of the 6Volt gel cells they measure about 1-1/2" X 4" X 6-1/2" they are out of a back up power supply.

I am thinking the frame will be open, but I seen a bike on here with the aluminum side panels and kinda liked it

The heat is one of the reasons I left the Exhaust 4 into 2, two tubes = more surface area = loose more heat. I had, at first, planed on making the piece from the swing are up and out the rear a rectangle tube, so it would be 4 into 1.
I have read in more than one place it has been shown on a dyno that their is no real HP gain on the 550's with a 4 into 1 over a well built 4 into 2, we will just have to wait and see how well I have done.


I am not even sure I am going to have an on board starter?

           Now, I'm understanding more about what you've got going there and the more I see and hear, (about the electrics and the exhaust) the more I'm liking it. I especially like the way you've got the exhaust tucked up against the bike. It's nice , neat and close. 8)  I've seen several bikes that the exhaust hangs rather low and looks like you could drag it off easily. ::)  Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Seems like it is awefully close back there...

Some taller springs could buy you some clearance, stock 750 springs are a little taller, I know Doug id has 13.5's on his now. I have have 14.25" GL springs on mine, soon to be replaced with 14" hammerheads...

Not really there is over 4" of clearance and I have some heaver shocks with external oil dampers to be installed when the time comes
