CB550 in a CB500 frame?
« on: January 12, 2007, 11:15:10 PM »
Just curious...does a CB500/4 engine fit in a CB500/4 frame? I know the question isn't very specfic, because I am not narrowing down years of manufacture etc. Just in general are there adaptibility problems?

It will drop right in, no problems.  That's what I've been told anyway.

I'm about to try this too.

Bryan Jones says that the rear right hand (as you sit on it) engine mounting plate is different (to fit the different clutch) so you'll need one from a 550. The frame is the same. You will also need a 550 clutch cable I believe.

Yes to the fit and RH rear bracket Nix to the clutch cable 500/550/750 all the same---yeh i know they are different part numbers but they will fit HONEST

I have a 75' 550 in my 71' 500 frame. I know there are other parts that may be incomptable, like the brake lever(depending on the year)  clearence is super close to the case, and the kick starter was not swapable.
If you have a complete 550 motor you should have little to deal with...
I can't say enough about the improvement in the bike with the 550 in there, it is much peppier and the clutch is MUCH better. DO IT NOW!!!

Yes the 550 will fit, but so will the 650. you need the electrics from the 650 also, and the carbs. The power gain should offset the rewiring. Anyways just a thought, good luck on whatever direction you go, and keep us posted.

Aw Man, You beat me to it. I was just going to say that the 650 would fit also. The clutch is an improvement with the 550. I'm not sure about what else. There's been some discussion on this before, and pretty detailed if I remember right.
