I have an "oil in frame" frame that I want to powdercoat.    Good idea or bad ?
I've run a little solvent through the frame and hit it with compressed air.   This thing has been sitting for months at all different angles and I still get a drip here and there.

You can try washing the oil out with acetone or kerosene.  I would give it 3 rinses with either.  Fill the tube(s) and let it set for a couple of hours then drain for each "rinse"   If the tubes are open at both ends blow air through to dry otherwise let it sit in the sun for a couple of days to really dry out before coating it and baking.

If they sand blast the frame before coating. Be VERY CAREFULL NOT TO GET SAND IN THAT OIL RESEVOIR. Or you will be screwed.  Why not just paint it?

The issue is the oil that sits deep in the pores of the metal. It will seep out when the powder is baked and compromise the coating. It is a challenge to get rid of it. baking before may help in some cases. We had apparently completely dry frames being messed up from the grease in the steering head.

Was just concerned about the oil.  Kerosene fumes not worth worrying about when heated?
