Yeah, Bob Java Hut is Lyndale and 27th-ish.  Great spot.  You ever go to Dulono's for the biker get togethers once a month?  Will post pictures tomorrow.

Yeah, First Thursdays man. I went last time, but I had nobody to tag along with, so I looked around a bit. Kinda crazy, lots of posers, but fun. Next time I'm gonna get some Mexican corn or whatever street food is available. I plan on hitting it up again in August.

Awesome build! I really like the way everything is turning out.

Also very cool to see a bunch of Minneapolis folk.  Its amazing how much we take advantage of the very short time there's not snow covering everything.  Can't wait to spot this bike rolling around!  I'm over by Bryant Lake Bowl all the time, so its bound tohappen eventually, right?  :D

Hi Aladinsane07.  Yeah I live pretty much across the street from BLB.  Colfax and Lake.  Minneapolis has a good scene for motorcycling.  Lots of us.  See you around town.

So started wiring up the tail light last night and realized Omar's limp sausage tailight http://omarsdtr.com/cafenew3.html, is only a two wire setup.  So on or off, no running lights.  I thought it would be three wires.  Yikes.  Hate and won't put my wife on the road at night like that.  So I need running lights on the back end.  Found two that seem reasonably priced and are ok looking.  Thoughts anyone?  Any other product out there you guys like?

In other news, starter solenoid is dead, so ordered an old one off ebay.  Put fuel in the tank last night and leaked out the petcock.  I had only put new gaskets/filter in the bowl, not the lever or top end (I'm getting increasingly stingy).  Parts are on the way.  It's always something right?

regarding running lights: why not just go to the auto parts store and find a light socket with three wires? i'd imagine you could get it to fit in the limp sausage housing.

Ecosse, that's a good idea.  It may be doable.  I might have to find a brighter bulb then what's in there at present.  Pretty dim as it were.  I'll open the light up later tonight.  I may just go with a complimentary running light/brake setup to really make it bright back there.  Thanks Ecosse!

consider an l.e.d. bulb. they are bright, noticeably quicker to illuminate, draw less power and make less heat.

only issue with them is that if the bulb used to light the tail light also lights your plate it may not show up well during a vehicle inspection. lights fine at night tho. i just swap in the conventional bulb for inspection.

hondaman was working on a solution for that.

Is the starter solenoid completely dead or does it still click? I fixed the one on my 750 by just cleaning the contacts in the solenoid.

Oh boy has it been a minute.  More like seven years...  So getting this bike running has been a huge PITA.  I could never get her running well despite all my, my father, and brother's best efforts.  Rebuilt the carbs a million times, tried another set of carbs, bought a used engine (yeah).  We could get it running but it had zero power and always had a cold cylinder (which seemed to be random).  Once it was restored it just sat in my barn.  I had a couple kids and life went on.  Rewind to three weeks ago and my wife says she wants to ride it and I better get my a$$ working on it.  Game on. 

Pulled the used motor and put the rebuilt motor I did back in.  While the motor was out I ground down every conceivable inch of powder-coat that touched the engine, electronic grounds, and coils.  Then I made damn sure there was a good ground by adding an additional ground strap to the battery/frame and linking the electrical ground by the airbox to the negative battery terminal. Rebuilt the carbs.  Rebuilt the front brake again and added an aftermarket master cylinder and braided steel lines.  Installed a MAC 4-into-1 exhaust ("Drag Queen" moniker is dead.  Working on a new name).  Dyna-ignition went back in.  Flushed the tank and added an in-line fuel filter.  Piece by piece it came back together.  Took a few solid days of work.  Turned the key this afternoon and BOOM!!!  Purred like a kitten the first time.  Adjusted idle and snyched the carbs and took it for a spin.  Whoa does it pull now.

Pro tip 682: when powder-coating a frame be a savage when it comes to grinding/taping electrical grounds.

Last things to do are fix an oil leak from the oil pump and get the headlight/blinkers/brake lights working.  Time to find my Clymers manual...
