cb750 k6 tank emblems
« on: September 29, 2018, 07:26:42 PM »
i found a set of clean original tank emblems at an estate sale a couple of years ago for 10 bucks.  turns out they are cb360 emblems.  the screw holes are approximately 2 11/16" on center.  when i hold them up against the tank they look pretty good as far as overall size.  my tank still has filler in the mounting bracket areas so i can't check to see if the holes match.  i don't imagine they do but could someone measure the screw holes on their tank emblems?  i would appreciate it as this winter i'm planning to strip the tank.  thanks.

On the early 750's the emblems have pins on the back that go through holes in a tank strap that are held on by little shallow keeper clamps not screws. Thats not to say though that screws could not be used and a person who has a tank without emblems couldn't measure the center to center of the pin holes.

Why not CB750 emblems without holes, pegs to enter the tank holes made for this?
I measured the holes on my old K2 tank, cc 102 mm. Used a vernier caliper.

Unless the badges have the same curvature as the 750 tank they will not mount properly.  They will snap if you try to bend them.  The 750 emblems are left and right handed due to the tank curvature.

I have found any accurate badges or decals for old bikes are very expensive.  either one is usually $100 or more.  Even the knockoffs are very expensive.  Why a badge or decal should be ~1/2 the price of a complete good condition fender is beyond me.

I hope they can be bent. Yamiya wrote that since they only had one version of the CB750 K2 badges. Bend carefully when badges are at least 30*C warm.

The ones I have will fit the curvature fine.  thanks pewe.  102 mm turns out to be about 4".  so the ones i have wouldn't be able to be screwed on without modification.  once i get the tank stripped down i'll see what condition the brackets are in.  for now i'll hold on to these "369" emblems.  they are pretty nice.  i'm itching to start on that tank but i don't have a second tank to use during this decent weather.

I have spent some time today to clean a K2 tank from 2k filler where the Honda badges will sit. Tank was previously painted and no badges, everything covered by filler.
I had cleaned all paint before, only the filler on where the badges will sit and under the plate.

I used paint stripper, the good one with forbidden chemical. I had to splash on some gel, wait 30 min, carved out filler, more gel and wait, carv again with small screw driver and thin angled allen head tool.

+1.    The badges could also be glued on or installed with automotive doubled sided trim tape.

My 79 650 has screw mounts, might br the same,IDK

The center to center  ( by tape measure ) is about 3 3/16"

The right side badge has about 1 1/2" of bend or rise to it if you lay a straight edge across the bar on the "H" and measure to the end of the "A"

Maybe that helps/maybe not😨!  Here is some pics......maybe.

thanks for checking jgger.  yeah the holes on the "369" emblems are a half inch less.  i'm sure they won't line up.
