cb400f reassembling the engine in the frame
« on: November 18, 2018, 03:53:25 AM »
This is a bit of a lazy question. Has anybody ever reassembled the cb400f engine in the frame?

Having polished and touched up the paint work on the frame I don't want to risk scratches by heaving and great lump of ready assembled engine into the cradle. I was idly wondering whether it was possible to put the lower crankcase half (completely bare) in the frame and build it up from there?

In the past I've always assembled the lower half of engine " on the bench" and torqued up the nuts holding a crankcase halves together and put the barrels and head on once that's in the frame.

I just dropped my engine out of my 400 using the lay down method and it worked, although it got a little hung up. I had everything still on the frame though. A naked frame would be really easy.

An  assembled crankcase without topend is light enough to manhandle in and out of the frame without doing damage. Even the complete engine (no oilpan and breather cover ofcourse) will go in without trouble!
