16 rear wheel gearing.
« on: February 12, 2019, 07:55:26 PM »
Would it be more advisable to drop the front 17t to a 15t. Or the rear 37t to a 34t to recover some of whats lost by switching to a 16 rear. I ride highway and interstate.
Or maybe even going 16/36?
Your thoughts?

17tooth to 15 tooth on front would raise RPMs and lower mph.
Some claim the smaller front sprockets shortens chain and front sprocket life.

Small front sprocket is what Honda reckoned caused chain breakage on early 750

Be careful!  130/90/16 often ends up nearly as tall as 110/90/18...malking gearing change unnecessary

Before you change the gearing go to the tire manufacturer's website and look up the rolling circumference of your tire and compare it to that of the stock size. As Sean says you may find that the 16" tire isn't actually that much smaller around than the stock 18".
