CB550 breather hose set up
« on: April 21, 2019, 02:07:39 AM »
OK, I've searched the forum and found a plethora of opinions and advice on the subject, mine is hopefully a simple question. My '74 is basically untouched but it is missing the vent hose coming off the head, and there's no filter for it inside the air box. I've never owned a CB so I have no frame of reference but after scouring this forum I believe that's the OEM set up. Just to get the bike running again, for now, I want to either leave the hose open to drain away from the rear tire (is that even possible?) or would it be wiser to add some aftermarket filter on it instead? I don't mind cleaning or changing a filter so that's not on issue. I'm guessing either way I should block off the hose intake on the air box.
Just for the record, if I can find the missing parts for the air box I'll be returning to the stock set up.
Thanks in advance!

Brian

It will run quite happily with an open ended hose but cap off the air box end or you will be running unfiltered air. The inner filter can be made from one of those foam pan scrubs with the abrasive cut off.

K&N makes a filter end for this purpose.

Thank you. It looks like it's a 1/2" ID hose, correct?
