Two years ago, I shipped a $1200 fly fishing rod to a guy in Bozeman Montana through UPS.  The package arrived as they promised, but it was missing the fly rod!  I never did get the rod back and fighting UPS to pay the insurance claim was a nightmare.  Good thing my wife is an attorney, once I got her involved, they paid the claim quickly.

BTW, FedEX isn't much better, they left a package with $1500 worth of parts in it on my deck - the package clearly stated that the items must be signed for.  I returned home after a three day weekend in VA to find a rain soaked package.  Good thing I have honest neighbors.

It's amazing that UPS can ship anything undamaged.  I watch in amazement while the UPS driver unloads (*read* dumps) the stuff out of his truck at the shipping dock at work.  He doesn't care in the least what the package might contain, or the little graphics that read fragile or this side up.  Example, brand new LCD 19" computer monitors, the company ordered a dozen or more, and out of the dozen, 8 were damaged and had to be returned.  The driver literally throws the stuff from the truck to the receiving floor.  We receive boxes all the time that are all busted up like the one in your photos.  Contents spilling out all over the place.  A$$ h<>les!

That was early in the packing. I actually had about 15 runs of tape around the package  ;)

Oh, BTW, I just shipped out a $3200.00 color OMRON touchscreen to our plant in Shanghai China on Thursday.  Told the shipping people to double box it.  We'll see what shape it's in when it arrives.  I think I'll have the guy in China take some photos of the package before he opens it.

I`ve shipped countless packages with all the carriers and the the best is still the US Postal Service followed by DHL.
UPS and Fedex must hire gorillas to work in their shipping hubs.

That's really too bad about the experiences that some have had with UPS and FEDEX or whatever. I worked in parts at a GMC dealership for 2yrs and never had ANY trouble like that with either one of them. The always delivered in a decent way and picked up the same way. never any package or contents damage. The UPS and FEDEX folks around here seem to care about how they treat the packages and, on occasion, go above and beyond. On the other hand, the "Special Needs" young man that I work with, gets Ensure (a high protein drink) delivered by UPS and sometimes some of the cans are bent up (Even though the box is in good shape.

I have shipped hundred of parts, etc. thru both UPS and FedEx Ground and have only had one damage claim on some cans of coolant I shipped to a customer about 100 miles from me. I used FedEx Ground and I filed a damage claim and actually got reimbursed in about a week for the full amount. I admit I was surprised but the claim was less than $50 so maybe that's why they paid it.
I think UPS could break an anvil if they wanted to. FedEX for me has been better, especially when I need to track a shipment. They can give the status within seconds.

Several years ago, a friend sent a Jaguar speedo to be rebuilt. Came back looking like a truck wheel ran over it. UPS dragged their feet. He is a city police sargeant. Went to the local UPS office and stated it would be very hard to ignore the speeding trucks, double parking, and parking on No Parking zones. They gave him a check on the spot.

Wish I could use that one. Want to use a rocket launcher right at this moment. Maybe 60 minutes could do a thing on it  8) That would work so much better.  :D ;D They love stuff like this. Trust me if they ran anything on the thousands of packages they destroy each month there would be some changes. Big companies run like this until at lease 20% #$%*. Then they relook thier policies.

BTW upssucks.com and all others have been taken. These corporate a holes have squated on all of them.  >:( Guess I will have to start buying more nasty ones. www.upssucks.com comes back to

good to hear... when i'm in a bad mood and need to vent i'll tell you a little story about an ebay experience i've had in the past week.

basically, the guy called me a dick and followed it up with an apology because his shipping manager wife told him that "he was the dick".

I think that the reality here is that any organisation is only as good as the people it employs. Way back when, in my optical days, we sent back some glasses frames to the importers, via Loomis. When the box reached its destination we were advised that it had been opened and a couple of the frames were missing. Whoever pilfered them had used a different kind of tape to reseal the box!

When challenged Loomis admitted that the only people who would have had access to the parcel were their employees....but no evidence, no case. We stopped doing business with them straight away, so they lost several hundred dollars worth of business a month. Did they ever act contrite...... I'll leave that for you to answer.

It was always fun to come to work at Roadway Express and see what the boys had broken overnight.  One time it was $50,000 worth of brand new automobile windshields that the handlers stacked pallets of paint on top of.  Another time was a $15,000 antique persian rug that a careless checker ran a forklift fork clean through.

$45,000 worth of brand new plasma TVs destroyed because they were stacked on top of each other improperly.  A BRAND NEW 2007 Vulcan crushed when it fell out of the back of a swingdoor van that had been left open and the yard Mule backed over it.  And don't even ask about the time they broke 2 whole pallets of barrel aged Jack Daniels whiskey fresh from the Lynchburg plant.  The dock smelled like whiskey for a week and a half after that.  I will never enjoy the scent of whiskey again.

In other words... Never ship anything through anyone, ever!   ;D ;D ;D  They're all the same, and none of 'em care (in this case it was because they were part of a lazy Teamsters Union...  Not that Unions are bad, but THIS one was!)

the stealing is a pain in the a$$... a few here can probably attest that "we" have fallen victim to the postal thieves.  a few patches/pin packages that i've sent have arrived w/out contents  ???  if the package makes it there... why not the contents?  OOOHHHH.... the machine "ate" it... yea friggin right!!!  didn't i just pay you to make sure that the contents make it there?

My bad UPS story is rather boring in comparison.

I have a C&R FFL.  That's a Collector of Curios and Relics Federal Firearms License.  It means I can buy rare or antique guns and have them shipped to me through the mail or carrier.  Usually guns have to be bought in person and since I like older stuff, this was a boon to my buying habits.  See a gun advertised online or in a catalog?  Put in the order and I have it in a week or so.

Awesome.

Anyway, I found an old Swiss K31 rifle for sale through a distributor online.  I put in the order and it was shipped via UPS.  Stuff takes about a week to get to me, so I waited.  A week and nothing.  Two weeks; nothing.  Three weeks, I call the company and they assure me it shipped.  I checked the tracking number and it made it to a hub near my house, then nothing.  I called the company back and told them what happened.  They promptly reported it stolen and called the ATF.  UPS stalled and hemmed and hawed, but once a Federal Law Enforcement agency got involved...well, I wasn't there, but it was reportedly pretty ugly.  ;D

The company shipped me a new rifle post-haste and it made it to me A-OK.

My only question is:

Did they ship the new rifle through UPS again?
