Need CB750K1 Carbs rebuilt
« on: June 01, 2019, 02:23:51 PM »
I don't want to do it myself.  Ideally, I'd love to find someone I can send my carbs to or a local person in the Bay Area.  Anyone have any contacts or ideas?  In 2013 a member, "harisuluv" was doing them and had great reviews but I have not been active on this forum for a long time and not sure if he's still around.  Thanks, Greg

Is that Charlie's Place still around in San Francisco. if so probably be expensive. I will say the round top carbs on the 750's are one of the easiest carbs to work on in the motorcycle world and usually just need cleaning and not a rebuild with all new parts.

Thanks, ekpent,
Charlies Place is still there.  I live about an hour south of there (Santa Clara).  It's an option but a last resort.  Best, Greg

Hi Greg,
I received your message, and no I don't currently know of a good vintage Honda shop in the Bay Area.
It's my understanding that Charlie's Place has moved to Glendale, Ca which is a shame because I really liked that shop when I lived in San Francisco.
O'Hanlon Brothers in SF was started by Charlie and his identical twin brother before he started Charlie's Place and they also specialized in old Hondas. O'Hanlon Brothers is owned by someone else now and they just kept the O'Hanlon name so I don't know if they are still regarded as a vintage Honda shop. They might be worth a call though.
It's ok if it leaks a little oil, that just means there is oil in it.
It's when it stops leaking that you should worry.

Mostly, these carbs just need a good cleaning of the jets, emulsifiers, and passages, and [often] some new float valves. And a new float bowl gasket (PartsNmore sells those separately). They are very simple inside, and can even be cleaned without taking the rack apart. :)
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

My CB750 K6 carbs had done around 90.000 km totally when I took them apart cleaning the 20 years old fuel out.

I reused all jets except for main jets that needed to be smaller. Only rubber gaskets replaced. Float height 26mm, 25 will smoke... mine did.

Be careful using ultrasonic washer that can make metal to disappear with wrong chemicals very quick.

I cleaned mine manually with naphta and the best cleaner I have tried, Motorex chain cleaner spray + compressed air.
I let each carb in pieces with jets beside swim in vinegar for a few hours direct followed by water to remove oxidation.
