Feeling like dgr might be headed in the wrong direction. People haven't heard of it, feel its sexist, or otherwise exclusionary. (Points at the american cruiser mafia).
Plus, when it comes to supporting those in need, where is the foundation?
The american programs are select and few. A lobbying group in los angeles?
Rural suicide is a thing, elderly suicide is a thing, teen suicide is a thing, veteran suicide is a thing.
Getting dressed up and going on a 30 minute parade isnt going to stop all of this. In the words of hst, it never got fast enough!
Raising money for the largest cancer research center is one thing.
But trying to alter the perception of suicide and mental illness in this fashion may be backfiring. The program funding may not be reaching those who need it most.
There are specialized teams out there developing improved crisis response networking platforms. It will be interesting to see how this rolls out. Real teams of people who can invest themselves into community betterment.
No more cops and medics arresting people down to the psych ward for having a bad day. That sort of intervention is known to backfire and leave people more traumatized than before.
But i digress.
