Will other CB750 exhausts work on cb750a?
« on: July 17, 2019, 09:32:05 AM »
Hello,

I'm new here and I bet this has been asked before but I couldn't find anything with a search. On my '77 the left side exhaust is rusted out and the previous owner did a hack job getting it back together. So I am either looking for a decent OEM replacement or I was wondering if exhausts from other 750s would work on my machine?

A couple of the guys in the performance section are racing A's. They could answer. I plan to try couple but haven't yet. My older projects demand attention right now.

On this forum, a number of people have chimed in on this topic.  I'm not able to do a forum search right now.

Also available are CB750A specific aftermarket pipes.

Generally, the deeper sump on the CB750A is a problem - not enough clearance for most pipes, as they "hug" the bottom of the engine quite closely, normally.

Please share if you find something that works. My 76A has a one year only exhaust (4 into 1). The header is cosmetically bad and getting it re-chromed doesn't seem to be an option. I'll switch to the later 4 into 2 if I have to.

don't remove baffles carb is already on lean side. pulling baffles will really lean it out and run like #$%*
don't buy it build it

OK , will well leave alone, I notice alot of the exhaust pipes are nearly blue and seem to be gettin a bit on the hot side.

So from the bits I have read on here the 28 mm round tops are a good start, quench the thirst a bit and same for the asthma...???

All I can find new are MAC 4-into-2 for 77-78 model years. Nothing for a '76A. I wonder how much modification it would take to fit a 4into1 from another model. A little hammer massage, or cutting and welding?

Yeah, I've got holes on the inside of both of my mufflers but the headers all look good. I'm assuming just taking a hacksaw to where the weld is holding the muffler to the headers (4-2 oem system) and then adding new mufflers with a clamp would not be a big deal... anyone on this thread done anything like that?
Thanks!
